All forms of treatment, medical and dental (including orthodontics), have potential risks and limitations. Fortunately, in orthodontics, risks are infrequent and when they do occur, they are usually of minor consequence. Nevertheless, all potential risks and limitations should be considered when making the decision to undergo orthodontic treatment.

Y shaped elastic – Does precision in force application matter for correction of individual upper second molar crossbite?

Y shaped elastic – Does precision in force application matter for correction of individual upper second molar crossbite?

Micro implants are widely used for the correction of individual molars in a crossbite malocclusion. To correct the crossbite one has to simultaneously intrude and retract the tooth. Various authors have achieved such correction by placing a micro implant and stretching an elastic or e- chain over the occlusal surface of the tooth. Though this technique was effective in correcting the crossbite, some limitations and clinical problems were addressed.

Aesthetics has become an important and integral part of the orthodontic treatment. With the invention of revolutionary aesthetic brackets, the need for the aesthetic wires became very strong. Traditionally, brackets as well as archwires were manufactured with Stainless steel or Chrome-Cobalt alloy. Titanium and its alloys have also found their application in this field.

Laser Holography and Its Applications in Orthdontics

April 2011

Holography has found a series of applications in dentistry such as the study of elastic deformations of soldered gold joints, qualitative studies of various dental structures, and the measurement of elastic deformation of prosthodontic appliances. In orthodontics, it has been used for the storage of dental casts, determination of tooth displacements, determination of centers of rotations of teeth and studies of deformation of human skulls after force application.
