We have designed a simple holder, for interproximal stripping of both anterior and posterior teeth.

Fabrication is as follows:

1.      Take a 20 gauge (.036”) diameter, 7 inch length of straight stainless steel wire.*

2.      Bend the wire into a dumbbell shape with the circle having 10mm diameter. A lingual sheath is inserted to hold the free end together which is bent at 900 (A).

Figure A

3.      Two small helices are made at a distance of about 1.5 cm from the lingual sheath, followed by a double back at the end of each leg.

4.      Insert an interproximal strip into one of the double back either by drilling a small hole or by winding it twice to secure it. Insert the other end of the interproximal strip into the second double back bend in the same way (B).

The universal strip holder is now ready to use for interproximal stripping of both anterior (C) and posterior teeth (D). This design is easy to fabricate and feasible to change the interproximal strip at chairside.
